Whether it’s indoors or outdoors, there is nothing better then the lingering scent of fresh flowers. These helpful tips can help you get the most out of your arrangements.

Typical Life span of fresh flowers

Iris, Dahlia, Delphinium, and Gerber daisy will typically last for 7 days. Gladiolus, Lisianthus, Liatris, and Statice will last for about 10. Shasta Daisy, Carnations, Babies Breath and Strawflowers can last for much longer

Tips for making a cut flower bouquet

. A fresh and colorful arrangement of flowers will brighten up any drab room in the house.

. Change the water in the vase or container daily.

. When cutting flowers, cut the stem at an angle, running it under cold water. This will help elite areas that bacteria can form.

. You must remove all he leaves off the stems that are below the water line. This is usually 6 inches from the bottom of the container. Leaves left under water begin to rot quickly and the resulting bacteria can kill the plant.

. The best time to pick fresh flowers is early in the morning just after the dew has dried.

Tips for a basic floral bouquet

. Fill a vase or container with 6 inches of water. Add the desired greenery and fern. Cut all the other flower stems at varying heights. Place them in the vase in a cascading pattern highlighting the most colorful flowers in the center.

. Add the rest of the filler plants or flowers at the last. Astilbe, Statice, and Roses make nice fillers.

. You can rearrange your bouquet every time you change the water. The water should be mixed with a floral food to increase its longevity. Properly cleaned and fed flowers can last for up to two weeks.
